A Word From Our Education Director
I want to share some exciting news!
Most of the members of the Historical Society have special memories of the Lake or our town that draw them in to the Museum to share stories, appreciate the collections, and learn more about Ronkonkoma's rich history. But my challenge was how to attract children that do not share the same sense of connection to the community. I spent the past several months creating 6 programs to not only enhance children's understanding of local history BUT to captivate their attention through interactive themes, fun games, and hands-on experiences.
I was lucky to present one of these programs to 8 different scout groups so far, and was thrilled with the results... not only were the scouts engaged and learning but they left feeling PROUD of their neighborhood. This feeling of pride will be the driving force to volunteerism and motivation to preserve the stories from our past. Please join me in spreading the word about these programs so that every child has an opportunity to discover all the Museum has to offer!
